Why is it important to inspect your Treatment bed

Treatment beds are the backbone of your clinic. These medical devices get constant use every day, nonstop. Without them, performing any clinical or physical task would be nearly impossible.

Whether it’s a chiropractic table, dental chair, Physiotherapy table, hospital bed or traction table, all of these beds have one common enemy: wear. Wear applies to joints, bushings, actuators, motors and upholstery, to name a few.

Here at TRH Services, we make sure to inspect your beds from top to bottom in key areas such as:

1. We Perform electrical safety according to CSA standards to ensure the bed is safe to be used. This test also checks for the health of the motors. If the power ratings do not match the manufacturer’s specifications, something isn’t right and needs attention.
2. Check for Wire nicks or cuts. It is very common for cords to have this kind of damage. Beds are often pushed against the wall the bed is plugged into, which usually leads to damaged power cords or caps. We have often found Cord caps with broken ground posts still attached to the wall outlet. Power Cords possess an electrical safety hazard and must be treated ASAP.
3. Hardware gets loose over time. We ensure that all fasteners are properly secured, that all junctions are properly attached, and have the mobility they need.
4. Lubrication is important to eliminate noises and squeaking. While WD-40 is a very popular lubricant, beds do not always require this product. Some joints and bushings require a specific type of grease, and newer Actuator shafts, do not like WD-40. Instead of doing good, it may potentially damage them.
5. Brakes, levelling legs and wheels. We check for proper brake functionality and the whole brake mechanism with the wheels. This is fundamental for patient safety because beds should have minimal to no movement when the brakes are engaged. Levelling is also checked so the table is as straight as possible.
6. Check for rips and tears in the upholstery. This check is more than just a visual check. Tears or cuts can potentially injure patients due to their sharp edges. We remove the panel that requires re-upholstery and take it to the shop for repairs.
7. Lastly, we check the condition of the switches used to operate the bed/table. We test all the buttons to make sure everything is working correctly.
